Trent and Laura Thompson

By Anna Margaret Wilson

The leaves are changing, the days are growing shorter, and the air is finally beginning to get crisp – fall is in full swing! Nothing warms our hearts more during these cooler days than a love story and some adorable dogs!

Meet Trent and Laura Thompson. Trent grew up in Powder Springs, where he was the quarterback for McEachern High School. He knew he wanted to take his talents to the next level, which led him to playing at Tennessee Tech University. In the spring of 2015 he went on to play at University of West Alabama, until ‘Tommy John’ surgery ended his football career. His time on the football field might have ended, but his story with Laura was just beginning.

Laura is originally from Gainesville, but attended the University of West Alabama, where she and Trent met. Laura was on scholarship for cross country and track & field – as well as being Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President. She competed all four years running cross country and the 1600m in track. Both she and Trent earned varsity letters at UWA.

Trent was in the football field house at UWA one day when Laura walked through to speak with the head coach about a fundraiser. As soon as she got to the coach, she asked that he introduce her to Trent. “I wanted to know him immediately,” Laura said. They began dating a few months later.

Trent and Laura moved to Paulding County after getting married in July 2017. Trent’s passion for sports led him to accept a teaching and coaching job at Hiram High School as a QB Coach and Assistant Baseball Coach. He now coaches at Paulding County High School as the Passing Game QB Coach, under his QB coach at McEachern, Van Spence. “Their bond is like no other.” Trent also coaches JV baseball at PCHS.

Laura started working full-time for Duplicating Products, Inc. in August of 2016. Duplicating Products is a Gainesville based company that sells office equipment and software solutions to companies in Metro Atlanta. Her selling territory is in Cobb and Cherokee County, so Paulding has been a great fit for them. Laura, still passionate about running, is the Community Coach for the boys and girls cross country teams at PCHS.

When Trent and Laura aren’t on a field, their world mainly revolves around their four-legged children, Cain and Echo. Cain is a bluenose pit bull they adopted in February of 2016, who will turn three in December. Echo is a pit bull/bulldog mix who is almost a year and a half old. Laura rescued her in August of 2017 as an early birthday present for Trent. They love taking the dogs on hikes at Kennesaw Mountain or the Silver Comet Trail, play time at the Dallas Dog Park, or to the lake.

Trent and Laura love to travel when they can, especially to the beach! They’re very active and enjoy running together or playing tennis at White Oak Park. Trent is a handyman and Laura loves home decor, so in their spare time, she’s always giving him projects! They cherish their date nights, whether its weekly sushi, trips to Ponce City Market or The Battery in Atlanta.

Trent and Laura hold their human relationships very high in their lives. They love to be with friends and family! They are both very involved in church and small groups at West Metro Church of Christ and truly value the relationships they’ve made there.

As if their fall season isn’t busy enough with coaching sports, they somehow manage to fit in quite a bit. They try to take a long-weekend vacation in the fall just to be together and take a break from their busy lives! The couple also loves to watch football, especially with friends and family. One of their favorite autumn traditions falls the day after Thanksgiving. For almost twenty years now, Trent plays in a “Turkey Bowl.” The Turkey Bowl is a flag football game between Trent, his brother Casey, and their friends. They never miss a year, no matter how cold it might be!

If you find yourself free on a Friday night this fall, come out and watch Trent coach the Patriots, or maybe you’ll see the Thompson’s at the dog park with Cain and Echo. Be sure to say “Hi” – they are all super sweet!
